Disconnecting an API Addin or Macro Updater from a Revit Project where the code is no longer available

Posted by Unknown Kamis, 30 Januari 2014 0 komentar
Have you ever experienced the "Missing Third Party Updater" message?  It comes about when an Updater (addin or macro) is in use, and then does not exist on a PC that is new to the project.

From sasha.varsanofieva
You must close all local files, open and click do not warn on your central, and then recreate locals. Otherwise the locals will continue to write the tag back into your central and from your central into the locals.

In my case, this wasn't enough to fix the issue.  The updater message still showed.  I did this:
  1. Opened the Central with Audit and Detach ticked
  2. Clicked the "Do Not Warn..." option
  3. Saved the file as a Central with a different filename
  4. Closed the file and opened it in the usual method (with Save New Local ticked)
  5. The warning did not show anymore

Is Dynamo the new API?

Posted by Unknown Selasa, 14 Januari 2014 0 komentar
I don't think the API programmers should get scared just yet, but is there a day coming when visual programming will completely replace custom code?  Julien seems to think so:

"I firmly believe Dynamo could be used for many many purposes, and addin-like behavior is one...
Definitions are easy to share and update. Users can tune them with only some basic Dynamo skill. It is not the same with addins. It is a lot of work to manage and deploy. And users will not be able to tune things. Same thing for macros."

Select by Parameter addin (free)

Posted by Unknown Senin, 06 Januari 2014 0 komentar
Sometimes you just need to hear an idea and you innately know "this is going to be useful..."

Quick Select command for Autodesk® Revit® to select by element type and its properties. Expand the element or family type and select the properties that you wish to filter by. Click OK and all those elements will be selected.
  • When in “Or” mode, the command will select all elements that match any of the properties.
  • When in “And” mode, the command will only select elements that match all the selected properties.
Example of potential uses:

  • select all Casework on a particular Level - done
  • select all Filled Regions with a given area - done
  • select all Walls whose Top is Attached - done

As with most addins I post about - its free.  Download on Exchange at:

YourRibbon Hotkey and Color - free full version keys for Revit 2012

Posted by Unknown Senin, 28 Oktober 2013 0 komentar
A while back, I mentioned the YourRibbon addin called Hotkey, which allows you to assign a HotKey to a specific component, not just a command.  There is another one called Color by the same dev.  Using this, you can override colors in your working environment in Revit, turn color on while working in Revit and back to black when it's time to print.  Video below:

Free full version keys for Revit 2012
Do you have a few Revit 2012 projects still hanging around?  Enter the following activation keys into YourRibbon for a full free version of YourRibbon for Revit 2012.

KiwiCodes Bonus Tools - a powerful timesaving toolset for increasing Revit productivity

Posted by Unknown Selasa, 15 Oktober 2013 0 komentar
In some ways, vanilla Revit is like the base model option package of a new vehicle - no shiny wheels, 20 speaker sound system, or sports handling package.  But some add-ins can make you feel like you are driving the top of the range, fully optioned model ...

Here are just a few of the things the KiwiCodes Bonus Tools lets you do:
  • determine the "source" file path to RFAs of loaded Families and re-path family files
  • replace Groups with Families
  • create Floor elements from Room boundaries
  • duplicate Sheets and the Views that reside on them
  • add points to a Topo from a selected Family
  • create an outline edge of a Topo element (these can be 2D or 3D lines!)
  • Export Template and Import Room Data from Excel (including adding Room Placeholders) - bit timesaver
  • Convert a Navisworks XML report into clash points and 3D views placed on sheet(s)
  • and there is much, much more...
For the sheer amount of timesaving and productivity tools included, the low price represents good value for money.

Weird - ever had a GUID conflict for Revit add-ins installed via MSI?

Posted by Unknown Rabu, 14 Agustus 2013 0 komentar
Just installed CloudWorx (more on this later) and it had a GUID conflict with CADtoEarth - weird?  Wonder if the installer somehow couldn't properly generate a unique identifier (see image).

In any case, Jeremy describes how to generate a new GUID over here, but I couldn't find GUIDgen.exe easily on my XP 64-bit PC, so I downloaded GUIDgen from:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=17252

  1. Generated new GUID, copy to clipboard
  2. Open offending (ie. most recent) .addin file that caused Revit to show the error on startup
  3. Paste the newly generated GUID into the ClientID field
  4. Save the .addin manifest and restart Revit
This resolved the GUID conflict.

Compiling and using RevitLookup for Revit 2013 (and transferring single View Template using this free add-in)

Posted by Unknown Minggu, 28 Juli 2013 0 komentar
This is using XP 64-bit with Revit 2013 Update 3, but similar principles will apply to other OS and software versions:
  1. Install Revit 2013 SDK if you don't have it already, from here
  2. Install RevitAddinManager from SDK\Add-In Manager\ folder
  3. Open Sharpdevelop, you should be able to find it at:
    C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Revit Architecture 2013\Program\SDA\bin
  4. Drag and drop RevitLookup.csproj to the Projects panel on the left
  5. Compile Revitlookup.  Make sure to Add Reference Path (project / properties) to your Revit 2013 Program folder.  Then click Build, Build Solution.  I received a bunch of Warnings about obsolete classes and properties, but no errors.
  6. Open Revit and any project
  7. External Tools - Add-in Manager (automatic)
  8. Load the compiled RevitLookup.dll and then use the Save to Add-ins folder option
  9. Restart Revit
Now, to use RevitLookup to find the Element ID of a View Template and copy it to another project:
  1. Open a Project
  2. Add-Ins, Revit Lookup, Snoop DB...
  3. Scroll down and select the appropriate View reference, ie. ViewPlan for a Template that was created from / for a Plan View
  4. When you select it, the Element ID will be shown on the right and you can copy it to Clipboard
  5. Select By ID, Paste
  6. Ctrl+C
  7. Switch to another project
  8. Paste - Aligned to Selected Level
  9. Done :-)

BIMFrame Connect - Google Cloud addin for Revit

Posted by Unknown Minggu, 14 Juli 2013 0 komentar
Daniel Monsén has created one of those addins where you just have to say "this makes sense". The key feature of Bimframe Connect?  It allows users to import and export data from Revit to a Google Spreadsheet.

The overall concept is that you can export data to a Google Spreadsheet, collaborate using a web client or mobile device, then import the data and update the Revit model.  Collaborators obviously don't need Revit - just access to the Google spreadsheet.

Personally, I love the idea.  The more transparent the Revit building database is, the easier it is to add intelligence to the model, share the model, and detect design problems.

Overview:

The above video includes the following info:

eVox - a Revit Bill of Quantities add-in

Posted by Unknown Minggu, 07 Juli 2013 0 komentar
Strangely enough, I recently came across two different BOQ methodologies for Revit - one is an addin, another is a cloud based solution.  This post is about the addin, called eVox, by Luca Vocella.

To be totally honest, I haven't had much time to do a proper review of the addin.  However, I was waiting for it to be available on Exchange before I posted about it.  It is there now, at:
http://apps.exchange.autodesk.com/RVT/en/Detail/Index?id=appstore.exchange.autodesk.com%3aevoxbillofquantities%3aen

Luca is very interested in any feedback on comments you may have - feel free to post them here, and Luca will then improve the app according to your recommendations.

Another Add-in Challenge = determine Wall orientation relative to North and add to Parameter

Posted by Unknown Kamis, 16 Mei 2013 0 komentar
I received this request via email:
a question in revit vasari or you can get the orientation and exposure of a face of a mass or a wall
for example
classify all the walls to the north or the south-west?
and
put them in a schedule of the walls?

Vanilla Revit can't do this. But perhaps someone would like to make a little add-in, macro or script that processes Walls, determines their 'facing' orientation, and then inputs this data into a Shared Parameter of Walls? Successful challenger will obviously get a mention on the blog.

Maybe something like this already exists out there... Feel free to comment!

ANSWER
Thanks to Amy Manning, who 'reminded' me that Case do have a tool that does exactly that :-)

Its the aptly named "External Wall Facings".  More info at this link.

Much of the legwork was done back in this 2010 post by Jeremy:
The Building Coder: South Facing Walls

Note:  I used my Revit Master Search, which led me to this post, which led me to Sort and Mark by tools4revit.  However, I don't think this adds orientation relative to North - I'm pretty sure it just determines Flip/Mirror orentation?

Permanently Remove Areas and Remove Empty Tags addins

Posted by Unknown Selasa, 07 Mei 2013 0 komentar
Dima has moved his blog to http://dp-stuff.org/

Here are the most recent two addins:

PermRemovAreasRooms Revit Addin

PermRemoveAreasViews Revit Addin API from dp Stuff
PermRemoveAreasRooms Revit API addin allows you to delete rooms or areas permanently on the fly directly from any of your Revit views without having to do it from the Revit schedule. You have two options: either pre-select the elements and run the tool to delete just the rooms/areas in your selection, or you can collect ids of rooms/areas that you want to get rid of and copy/paste them via “Type In Element Ids” method.
04-02-2013 PermRemoveAreasRooms2013 (DOWNLOAD for Revit 2013)

RemoveEmptyTags Revit Addin

RemoveEmptyTags Revit Addin API from dp StuffJust as the name suggests this Revit addin allows you to find and remove empty tags from your Revit 2013 document. You will have two options whether you want to remove empty tags in the active view or in the whole document. You can use it in conjunction with out-of-the-box Revit Tag All tool.

via LinkedIn:
Hi Luke,
Just posted a PermRemoveAreasRooms tool on my blog as a part of my revit Utils. Little tool that I use a lot when having to delete Rooms / Areas permanently from my revit doc.

Also here's another one(RemoveEmptyTags) that I posted last week:

Some of you probably already realise that Case Apps have released a suite of Subscription tools (in other words, these are not free).

One in particular caught my eye - Super Tag.  It provides a "simple means for tagging specific family types by category using a specified tag on as many views as you choose."

Want a Tree View of the Model Elements in all your Worksets?

Posted by Unknown Rabu, 20 Maret 2013 0 komentar
A new Revit addin from Dima over at dp stuff can do that - it looks like this:

The tool is pretty straightforward, so I will try to describe just in a few words how it works (the demo video in the beginning of the post shows it as well).
- assuming you already installed the WorksetExplorer, run the tool from dpStuff Utils in Add-on tab.
- the dialog box will open and in the "tree" your elements will be sorted by workset, then by category, then by family, then by type.
- every "branch" will have a name and the amount of elements on it in parentheses.
- once you see something that shouldn't be on a particular workset then you can select the branch and click "Select Elements" button - that will add elements that belong to this branch to selection.
- now you can send them to the workset they are supposed to be on.
- repeat until all worksets are in good shape.
You can download the WorksetExplorer add-on from our download page or directly from this link.
